Dear Parents/Guardians:

We are pleased to inform you that a Pre-Kindergarten Program will be offered to all children eligible to enter Kindergarten in September 2006. The program, conducted by early childhood instructors, is designed to acquaint pre-school youngsters and their parents with their new school, to help them make the transition from home to school and to begin to build the language and concept base necessary for success in school.

The McVey Pre-Kindergarten program for children, who will be 5 years of age by December 1, 2006, will begin on February 6, 2006 and end on May 19, 2006. It will operate for 12 weeks. The Board of Education has approved TWO, 1-1/2 hour sessions per week. McVey’s schedule for Pre-Kindergarten will be as follows:

5	Monday & Wednesday	1:40 p.m. – 3:10 p.m.

Each class will meet 24 times.

Children will be registered in the above classes and must adhere to the specific days and times assigned. (For example, children enrolled in class #3 must attend pre-kindergarten on Tuesday and Thursday from 11:15 a.m. – 12:45 p.m.) We will not be able to accommodate requests for mixing classes.

In order to avoid lengthy, unnecessary waiting time during registration, a McVey PTA volunteer will be on hand in the Main Lobby on Monday afternoon, January 23^rd from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. to issue numbers to parents on a first-come, first-serve basis. In addition, you will also receive a folder containing the necessary paperwork to be completed. Please bring the completed paperwork to Registration.

Registration will be held at McVey on January 24^th and 25^th from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. Enrollment in each class is limited and will be done on a first-come, first-serve basis. Only a parent or legal guardian may register his/her child. There is no fee for the program. PLEASE NOTE: Registration will not begin until 9:30 a.m. In order to ensure the safety of our students, we are asking that you please do not arrive prior to this time.

As a reminder, please bring the Originals and a copy of the following documentation to the Registration:

1. Child’s Birth Certificate.

2. Two Proofs of Residency. (Homeowner tax bill, mortgage statement and deed, plus a utility bill – phone, water, electric, etc.)

If renting, you must provide a notarized landlord affidavit from the owner of the property along with the house deed, tax bill or mortgage statement, as well as 2 pieces of mail showing renter’s name and address.

3. Immunizations: (MUST BE signed and stamped by the physician)

Immunizations must include: 3 doses diphtheria, 3 doses polio, 1 dose rubella, 1 dose mumps, 1 dose HIB, 1 dose measles, 3 doses hepatitis B, lead screening and 1 dose Varicella.

4. A physical exam valid for 1 year prior to entering Pre-K

NOTE: New York State Requirements for Kindergarten admittance:

A physical examination report is required and is valid for the calendar year that a child enters kindergarten.
Proof of a second dose of measles vaccine.
