The East Meadow School District is happy to inform you, that the Music Department is planning a summer music program.  The program begins on Tuesday, June 26 and ends on Friday, July 27.  Concerts will be held on the last Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of the program.  

All activities will be held at East Meadow High School.


Please note that the Summer Music Program will be closed on Wednesday, July 4th in observance of the holiday.

BEGINNER INSTRUMENTAL PROGRAM


THE BEGINNER PROGRAM IS FOR STUDENTS WHO HAVE NEVER PLAYED A BAND OR ORCHESTRA INSTRUMENT. STUDENTS WHO HAVE EVEN ONE YEAR EXPERIENCE SHOULD REGISTER FOR THE INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED PROGRAM.

The Beginner Instrumental Program will be available for students entering Grades 4 through 6 in September. This program will offer daily lessons and supervised practice sessions on all stringed instruments (modified Suzuki program), flute, clarinet, trumpet, French horn, trombone, baritone horn, and tuba. Drums, guitar, electric bass, piano, and saxophone are not offered to beginners. After three weeks of daily lessons, the supervised practice sessions will evolve into a beginning band or orchestra. The beginner sessions start at 8:30 a.m. and end at 10:30 a.m. If parents and students wish, beginner students may stay to sing with the show choir. Dismissal would then be at 11:30 a.m. All students must supply their own instruments.

INTERMEDIATE BAND/ORCHESTRA PROGRAM
(For experienced players – generally in grades 5 through 8)

ADVANCED BAND/ORCHESTRA PROGRAM
(For experienced players - grades 9 through 12)

ADVANCED CHORAL PROGRAM
(For experienced vocalists - grades 8 through 12)

Students participating in the intermediate or advanced program will participate in a band, orchestra, or chorus rehearsal from 8:30 a.m. to 9:50 a.m. There will be a supervised break from 9:50 a.m. until 10:25 a.m. From 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., students may choose from the following electives: 

Band Students: Jazz Ensemble, Chamber Ensemble, or Show Choir

Orchestra Students: Chamber Orchestra or Show Choir (String Bass players may also choose Jazz Ensemble)

If your child does not participate in the elective program, dismissal will be at
9:45 a.m. in the main lobby.

All students must supply their own instruments.

Students must remain at East Meadow High School for the duration of the first session and are not allowed to leave the school grounds. Students who leave the campus will be dismissed from the remainder of the program. This is a closed campus program.

You will not receive confirmation of registration in the mail.
Schedules will be distributed on June 26th (opening day) in the East Meadow High School Gymnasium.

 

PLEASE ARRIVE PROMPTLY AT 8:00 A.M. ON OPENING DAY, TUESDAY JUNE 26

 

Please make arrangements to pick up your child each day promptly at 11:30 a.m. Students should not be dropped off in the morning before 8:15 a.m. The Summer Music Program does not provide transportation or supervision before or after scheduled hours.

 

All students must supply their own instruments*. Instruments may be rented from local vendors. Parents are free to use any vendor for the  rental of  instruments.  The vendor  who currently supplies instruments to East Meadow students is:

*Please be sure to check with your child’s music teacher before purchasing an instrument.

Students who use East Meadow school-owned instruments that are registered and attend the Summer Music Program may keep those instruments at no cost during the program, after completing a summer maintenance fee contract and registering for the program.
