US Marine Band Visits East Meadow High School

On Wednesday, October 21st the US Marine Band stationed in Albany, Georgia performed for the East Meadow High School music students. This outstanding band was on tour for the week in the Long Island area. After the performance, students from the East Meadow High School Wind Ensemble played side by side with the Marine Band, participating in a clinic. This was a wonderful experience for our music students, not only to hear very high caliber musicianship, but to play with and experience what it is like to play in a top quality professional ensemble.

Emily Mervosh, Long Island Scholar-Artist

Emily Mervosh, of W.T. Clarke High School has been named one of two Long Island Scholar-Artists for the month of February

This past summer, a committee of arts educators worked diligently to analyze each application for academic and artistic achievement, and had the difficult job of choosing students worthy of the Scholar Artist honor.
We are extremely proud that Emily Mervosh has been named one of two Long Island Scholar-Artists for the month of February. This choice was based on her dedication to her musical studies, her completed application and artistic presentation, her grade point average, and her outstanding letters of reference.

The Scholar-Artist program was established last year by school and community arts teachers and administrators and is sponsored by the Long Island Arts Alliance, with support from the Roslyn Savings Foundation. These organizations determined that selected Long Island students in music, visual arts, dance, theater, and media arts should be recognized for their accomplishments by featuring their stories in Newsday and on Newsday.com, and by presenting them to the public in an annual recognition event at the Tilles Center for the Performing Arts.
