Barnum Woods Teaming Plan

Text Box: In this plan, each student will have a home-based classroom, where he or she will establish a sense of classroom belonging. During home-based instruction, students will study science, writing, spelling, grammar and usage.

Students will rotate to other classes to study several core subjects, including math, social studies, and literacy.

A daily flex period has been provided in the schedule to meet the needs of students who may need additional instruction, or for those who may have missed classwork or assignments due to music lessons or attendance in support service classes.

THE BENEFITS OF TEAMING

•	Teaming will ease the transition from elementary school to middle school. Students will learn to rotate to different classes and different teachers. They will maintain a daily planner to keep track of assignments.

•	Students will learn to manage personal belongings and time in a more effective manner.
Teaming  =  Organizational Mindset

•	The variety of the teaming schedule addresses students’ needs for socialization and interaction with both peers and adults.

•	Teaming fosters the development of independent and critical thinkers as curriculum strands become more intensive.

•	Students will benefit from teachers instructing in areas of greatest expertise and interest.

•	The schedule insures that a set amount of time will be devoted to meeting the NYS Learning Standards in each discipline area.

•	Students will feel an added sense of maturity and develop greater responsibility as a result of being in the program.

•	Teachers will be engaged with a greater sense of “collaborative spirit” with grade level colleagues.
